Quilt Lecture on May 14 at the Guild

Jenny Bowker – Lecture
Hosted by the Yellowknife Quilt Guild
Location – Upstairs – Guild of Arts and Crafts – 113 Kam Lake Rd
Time – Sunday, May 14 – 7:30 pm – Sharp!!

The Yellowknife Quilt Guild would like to invite you to attend a lecture and showing of quilts by visiting Quilt Instructor – Jenny Bowker of Australia.

Jenny’s background before she discovered quilting, was in science. She is very interested in the way pattern comes into many parts of our lives and often includes some geometrical piecing in her work as she thinks it keeps her technically on her toes and provides a key for traditional quilters to link to her work.  She teaches and really enjoys it. There is no greater delight to her than to offer tools to a quilter who wants to make original work but doesn’t know how to access his/her own ideas.

She has four children and a very supportive husband who worked as a diplomat for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. While following him, she lived a total of fifteen years in Arab and Islamic countries. This might seem irrelevant to quilting, but has influenced her subject matter and much of her work reflects her love of the Middle East. She has lived in Syria, Western Samoa, Malaysia, Jordan, Jerusalem and Egypt.

Jenny is also teaching 2 classes for the Quilt Guild May 13/14 and May 15/16.  If interested or for further information, please contact Donna MacDonald at baja@ssimicro.com.  These classes are sponsored by the Yellowknife Quilt Guild with funding assistance from the Northwest Territories Arts Council.
